Feral Spirit and the less volatile Elemental Spirits have seen good improvements and is pretty locked in as a more frequent, rotational cooldown similar to the Witch Doctor's Wolf Bones playstyle of Shadowlands.Lastly the variety of cooldowns that can be slotted in across each build is important as it plays a big part in how each build ebbs and flows throughout encounters: It's also very easy to grab a more AoE oriented set of talents without sacrificing all of your single-target, but we can forego them to hyper-specialize in pure boss damage if we want to which is a healthy spot to be in. This versatility means we're not locked into a one size fits all build and can cater to an encounter or dungeon with different options to specialize. Due to them focusing on different abilities in each block, the pacing and priorities shift which makes it refreshing to try different things out, and they each compete with each other relatively well depending on the situation. To put it bluntly, Enhancement in Dragonflight is just plain fun to play and it gets back to the core roots of being a melee/caster hybrid without sacrificing things to get there.Īlongside that, the different build options also play in very distinct ways. One thing is always the case though - no matter the build there's a good amount of complexity with the rotational combos, and it's always fast paced. There's some interesting questions when "solving the puzzle" of how to balance out which spells you want to focus on, your Maelstrom Weapon generation/expenditure, your GCDs and your Cooldowns when building your charcter. Most of the builds that are used tend to have very few float points, as most things are in packages together - you pick a block of talents and merge those blocks into a playstyle you're looking for. Virtually every version of the spec over the years have come together to create the tree, and it's likely if you've ever dipped your toe into the spec in the past you'll see something you recognize represented here. The biggest and best selling point of Enhancement in Dragonflight is the wealth of options in how you build your character within the scope of the talent tree. Some of the big things to look forward to are: Why You Should Play Enhancement Shaman in DragonflightĮnhancement did see quite a number of refreshing changes in Dragonflight, but the core remains largely intact. Alongside that, it does struggle to carve out a compelling niche for AoE in some content as it has one of the strictest target caps of any spec for its heavy hitting abilities, so while its single-target profile is robust the entire package can be left wanting - especially in larger pull scenarios. It also inevitably has an ebb and flow of resources that has periods of starvation and periods of flood (and therefore waste) which some find unappealing. Obviously, there is a lot going on and often a misstep can be disastrous to the rotational flow as it relies a lot on momentum, which can be overwhelming due to the sheer amount of keybinds and cooldown juggling going on. On the other side of that coin, that does mean that the spec comes with some failure points that might be a turn off for some people. The playstyle is frenetic regardless of which build you decide on, with a variety of different ability packages that provides a combo-within-a-combo feeling that's sometimes challenging to juggle, but very rewarding when you line it up just right. Utility has also been split away from the Spec tree placing it almost entirely on the Class tree, letting you grab the tools you want without worrying about your available points to get the damage options you desire. This makes it one of the biggest winners of the talent tree revamps bringing in a variety of focal points - the Maelstrom Weapon spenders of old having a big punch, a decision between a focus on Physical Stormstrike / Windfury Weapon damage or a more Elemental/Spell leaning, plus a slew of cooldowns at your disposal. Dragonflight seems to be the culmination of all these styles, with a heavy focus on synergy between abilities. Why You Should Play Enhancement Shaman in Dragonflight (and Why You Shouldn't)Įnhancement has been up and down for its entire lifetime, with a lot of different designs and playstyles that have emerged and disappeared just as fast.
